The
Town House Gift Shop and Café is as close as you will find to a
local institution. Opened in 1966, the shop occupies the former jail house
of the town hall. The thick stone walls, vaulted ceilings and heavy iron
bars remind visitors that hot coffee and freshly baked scones weren't
always on the menu.
Service in the Town House Café is quick and convivial, with a wide
variety of hot and cold sandwiches, baked potatoes and omelettes to choose
from. We are also happy to supply any of our food to take away.
The Gift Shop stocks a huge variety of jewellery, glassware, ceramics,
knitware and curios from around the world. We also carry a range of locally
made craft ware and produce.
The Gift Shop is reached either through the Café or through the
Buttermarket, which is the stone flagged area surrounded by arches underneath
the town hall.
