Elizabethan Ramparts
Berwick's unique rampart and bastion fortifications were built early in the reign of Elizabeth I (1558-1603).

Constructed to the most advanced Italian design of the day, these massive artillery-proof defences replaced the medieval town walls.

The one and a half mile circuit affords excellent views of the town, the River Tweed and the Northumberland Coast. Guided walks are available from Easter and October.
