The Quayside
In the 13th century, Berwick was Scotland's richest town and greatest seaport.

Trade declined during the three centuries of Anglo-Scottish warfare, recovering only in the second half of the 18th century when the Quayside again bustled with the activity of vessels loading and unloading their cargoes.

Today, the Quayside lies quiet again, though a walk along the attractively restored Quay Walls is to step back in time to the 18th century. For those who wish to view the town and the Tweed from a different aspect, river cruises operate from the Quayside in the summer months.
