The
Maltings

Malting barley has been an important element of the local economy for centuries,
and still continues in Tweedmouth today. The town's name originates from the Anglo-Saxon "Bere-wic", meaning barley farm. The original Maltings on the site in Eastern Lane was destroyed by fire in 1984 and was rebuilt as a modern theatre and arts centre, which is the a cultural focal point for the town and surrounding district. |
