Chillingham Church Effigies
In about 1450 this magnificent tomb was constructed to commemorate Sir
Ralph Grey (1406-43) and his wife Elizabeth FitzHugh. The monument is
the finest 15th.Century tomb in the North-East with virtually all its
original features surviving intact.
The alabaster effigies, coats of arms, angels and figures of fourteen
saints have traces of their original colour. St.Cuthbert carrying the
head of the local king St.Oswald is included in the line-up.
