The Arts In Berwick -- Visual Arts -- Painting
The Wood Family

Frank Wood (1862/3-1953) was educated Berwick Art School by James Wallace, snr and studied at the Royal Collage of Art and in Paris. For about ten years he taught at Art Schools in the north but by 1899 was able to devote himself to painting. He moved to Portsmouth where he developed a talent for marine painting. Today these are highly sought after. He was a prolific artist and produced dozens of superb views of Berwick. His son Watson Wood (1900-85) served in the Indian army before becoming an artist. His style and subject matter closely followed his father, but he was also founder of the New 4 Group of artists. Frank Wood's grandchildren David and Alison, great-nephew Arthur, and great-great nephew Tim all became artists.
