William Bell Scott

William Bell Scott (1811-90) was master of the Newcastle design school. In 1847 he met the Pre-Raphaelite Dante Gabriel Rossetti and they became firm friends, Scott adopting the Pre-Raphaelite style.

In 1855 the courtyard of Wallington Hall was roofed over Scott painted eight large scenes from Northumberland history in the new hall thus created. They constitute his best-known work.
