The
Arts In Berwick -- Theatre The Gentle Shepherd Jug
The
Gentle Shepherd jug made in Prestonpans
Made
at Prestonpans, this shows Allan Ramsay's Gentle Shepherd (1725), performed
in Berwick Town Hall in 1761. Subtitled "a Pastoral Comedy"
it's a gentle tale of love among the Border countryfolk.
The jug depicts the hero 'Bauldy' and the witch 'Mause', from illustrations
by the playwright's son, Allan, jnr.
