The Gentle Shepherd Jug

Made at Prestonpans, this shows Allan Ramsay's Gentle Shepherd (1725), performed in Berwick Town Hall in 1761. Subtitled "a Pastoral Comedy" it's a gentle tale of love among the Border countryfolk.

The jug depicts the hero 'Bauldy' and the witch 'Mause', from illustrations by the playwright's son, Allan, jnr.
