Arts In Berwick -- Theatre
Romeo and Juliet in the Town Hall
Captain John Dawson (1727-69) of Brunton, gives us our first glimpse of
a performance in the newly opened Guildhall.
In May 1761 he records seeing there in the space of just a few days: "Romeo
and Juliet", Ramsey's pastoral "The Gentle Shepherd" and
a 60 year old comedy, ideal for a military town, Farquhar's "Recruiting
Officer".
