The
Arts In Berwick -- Film
'Henry Travers'
Henry Travers, is the best known of the five friends that formed the Berwick
group known as 'The Quintet'. Interested from his youth in acting he scraped
a living on the stage until seeking his fortune in Hollywood.
There he had modest success as a character actor. He played the angel
'Clarence' in the classic Frank Capra movie It's a Wonderful (1946) with
James Stewart. He played in dozens of other films, but his only leading
role was as the mayor of a wartime Norwegian village in The Moon is Down
(1943).
