Advertisements for the Meadows housing estate, give a glimpse of how the idea of the garden suburb came to Berwick in 1930s. Pleasant affordable housing in a leafy setting, but close to amenities, was first pioneered at Port Sunlight and Bournville. The finest English version is Hampstead Garden Suburb started in 1906.
